snacks abroad

First stop - petrol station! Yay... It is a good thing to have a tank full of petrol when going on a long drive!

We headed out at around lunch time! Probably not the best time for heading out on a long journey! But we were well prepared.

Bug splats on the windscreen don't really aid in taking nice photos!

Ok, why am I on edge about passing this parked van on the side of the road! It is empty and yet I still feel on edge!

No matter how hard I try I can not caputre the "icky" feelings that go with this place! I feel like we are being watched and I'm struggling to relax! I've never really like the area of Emmaville. It's dry and there is something about the place that I can not describe!

Strip mining plus erosion = little to no top soil. Only hard baked clay that most plants struggle to survive in! I am amazed at the damage that has been done to this area. There is little to no plants... Little to no life! Yes the erosion makes for a very interesting landscape that is beautiful and weird... but at what cost?

The amount of purple and green glass is amazing! Someone had fun here! A smash fest! We found many glass dumps like this! The glass is pretty!

From here we headed off to see the local asrenic mine! Oh How fun!

Yes I wanted to get closer but when you read a sign that says do not drink the water and I look down and sitting at my feet is this dog, who is trying to look o so cute, who has no clue on etiquette or general behaviour, who learnt from his mother how to drink sea water and all kinds of various thicknesses of mud... Dog + arsenic mine + don't drink the water + dog who cant keep from tasting anything and everything = dead dog! No thanks! Don't really want to go down that particular road!

In summery - the area is pretty in parts... I don't like the feeling of being constantly watched! It is drier than I like! And the lad is way too scarred from all the strip mining! Not good!

The only reason we would go back out there is because we know a guy who owns some property who is willing to let Gav do some fossicking! Other than that - I see no need to go back to Emmaville!

Actually I was glad to have the place behind me when we were finally on the road home! I don't know the history of the place but it feels like something bad happened there! Not the kind of place I would go for a picnic!
