Our neighbours across the road from us had a huge eucalypt tree! I say had, because they cut it down! This was a sad day on two counts - it was an old and beautiful tree and it had residents! Many different birds called this tree home! Two of which were a mating pair of black cocatoos!
I don't know the reason(s) behind the cutting down of the tree. Maybe it was due to the noise of the cocatoos, or the tree was just too old, or, it could have been anything! However the result was the same whatever the reason... the cocatoos were evicted!
I thought they had left permanently! We didn't see them for a long time!
This afternoon when my husband and I were down in the back yard we heard the usual screech of cocatoos. Without looking up I assumed that it was some of the other resident sulfur crested cocatoos... My husband on the other hand looked up and said - is that a black cocatoo?? I looked up and to my suprise it was... then I noticed the second one! And they have babies! I was so excited over these birds having a new home in a different neighbours yard that I neglected to notice the pair of white doves on this neighbours shed roof!! Forgive me but I don't find doves anywhere near as exciting as black cocatoos!!
So camera in hand I got as close as I could and took I don't know how many photos! :) Black Cocatoo on dark grey backgrounds don't come out all that good! But I did the best I could!
